Silly children don’t know what’s good for them.
Spiritual maturity coincides with understanding. Understanding less, that is. Not more.
The more one understands the less one knows. Socrates stated that true wisdom comes from knowing that you know nothing.
The prevalence of Church leaders ‘Guiding’ their flocks into fanatical politics is an example of mass self-delusion. Learned theolgians – "experts" – believe they understand deeply. And this empowers them to influence members, who don’t understand deeply. The process is gradual and binds people with reasoning that God never purposed. They aren’t free to follow God. They’re confined by the teaching and dogma of men. They’re Pharisees. They slowly abdicate personal responsibility for thinking, by adopting rules put forward by others.
Silly children don’t know what to pray for, or against. So we have a model prayer. And it’s sufficient.
Mature spiritual understanding erodes and sterilizes our temporal opinions. Mature dialogue with God says "Your way, not mine." "Forgive us as we forgive."" And "thank you for today.""
