True Believers practice devoted attentiveness.
They invest themselves. Learn to read all the signs. After they have done this long enough, things that were completely invisible become obvious.
Enlightenment. A much overused term.
But such things remain invisible or shrouded or in dark shadows, beyond peripheral view to others. The casual Believer and Denialist, the Atheist are effectively numb. Blind.
Some come to faith in a shocking baptism of fire. Whether by the shame of an alter call, private guilt or by temporal crisis – the veneer of faith outwardly shines only briefly. It’s rare for a wound to heal into a beautiful mark. Instead, a callous or scar results. The sleeve is worn longer, to cover embarrassment.
When the marks of Gods correction fall upon the meek, they are received with gratitude and praise. Recipients are propelled by them in ways they haven’t before trod.
Meekness is not weakness. To hunger and thirst for the presence of the divine requires suspending every expectation. Instead whatever grace befalls us waters the soil of our lives. Something quenched in us grows.
Trust is the comfort of knowing that cooking with the last drop of oil is done with real thanks and no fear. Happy are those who wait in emptiness as wont will bring about whatever the Lord wills open to us.
Sensing that doorway is to view the invisible.
