Orphangelical

“You meet saints everywhere. They can be anywhere. They are people behaving decently in an indecent society.”

Kurt Vonnegut

“Every saint has a past, every sinner a future.”

Oscar Wilde

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They fail to alter their views to fit the facts. Instead, they alter facts to fit their views.

Cutting Through Falsehood

Herodians owned the Temple and the religious ritual practices and the Pharisees served in their shadow.

The politics of the time within the Jewish community seeded rebellion against Rome and these differences appeared in the interpretation of God’s intention for men on earth.

(If for some reason this doesn’t sound at least vaguely familiar… Have you been living under a rock somewhere?)

“Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”

But He perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test Me?

“Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” They answered and said, “Caesar’s.”

And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

The image is clear.

Here’s one for believers in our time; A question used as a false litmus test in congregations on the timing of creation.

“Did creation take place in six days or did it start with the Big Bang aeons ago?”

There are lots of crafty false answers to this question that are politically correct and deceptively supported buy interpretive church doctrine. (See Ken Ham1.)

“Show me your iPhone, I said. Which version of physics underpins how this device works?”

The answer is: The version of physics that says the cosmos is very, very old.

“Then believe the testimony of creation that the Creator himself says testifies of his glory.”

Anybody who says that creation happened in six literal days should not be permitted to have a cell phone. Just sayin’…

These simple kinds of responses are appropriate for flat earth proponents and other ridiculous doctrines that run amok in our churches.
