The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They fail to alter their views to fit the facts. Instead, they alter facts to fit their views.

Nine Seconds

Amir Locke murdered moments after intruders crashed his door.

As a life member of the NRA (but sensible patriot) may I ask: Who wouldn’t reach for their sidearm?

I recently wrote a letter to the American Rifleman Magazine about how disillusioning it is to receive the same cultish political drivel each month. (Should I publish that text here?) The constitutional right to self defense with arms applies for every citizen, yet the NRA caters exclusively to the rabid fringe.

Let’s talk about threats the rest of us face.

This week, the death of Amir Locke underscores just how out of sync public safety is with hyper-militarized law enforcement. A young man, legally armed, killed in his home – before he could answer any questions or even respond to unintelligibly shouted threats.

Is Minneapolis a war zone? Is it really like someplace in Syria, where an innocent gun owner can be murdered on his couch nine seconds after intruders crash his door and interrupt his sleep? Do I live in a Minneapolis?

How could Law Enforcement be so ill-prepared? Where did those dollars we invested in all that specialized training disappear to?

NPR – Police Kill Innocent Man During No-knock search

Let’s be honest. Prosecution – IF IT HAPPENS – shouldn’t be limited to the poor dork who pulled the trigger. We need to see officers who organized the raid put on trial for incompetence and malpractice. And, how about accessory to murder?

I don’t know about hearing the “justifiable force” excuse from Police Union representatives. What responsibility do they have to Public Safety? None, it appears.

Put me down as “gravely concerned.”
