The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They fail to alter their views to fit the facts. Instead, they alter facts to fit their views.

Upon the Covid death of loved ones

Dgg

Meditating quite a bit these past couple of weeks. And now contemplating the recent deaths by Covid19 of some close family members; Ones who were militantly aligned with the science denial of the anti-vaccination movement.

I trust that something far better than simple restoration will come with the fulfilment of all things.

As much as I am spiritually minded (blessedly), I live analytically.

I’m pondering something very real and quantifiable. (linked below) If you open the article, there is an interactive chart – You can enter your county, see the numbers for your area.

In Coos County, Oregon people were 2.2 times more likely to die of covid than the national average. 114/(114-61)=2.2 (… check my math?)

A couple of days ago, returning home, I drove past a church in our neighborhood. Since the 2020 election, MAGA’s have gathered there Friday evenings. That evening, at 7:30PM, there were 60 – 80 cars in the parking lot…

Look for the “Citizens Restoring Liberty” item, bottom right of that page. CRL is a growing national ‘movement.’ (…or a festering cancer.)

To me, the marriage of “religion and politics” is an abomination. We have no church to attend any more… QAnon spreads from seat to seat.

“The prevalence of anti-intellectualism in tribal conservative politics and religion … is the issue of our age. The disease of deliberate ignorance is not a crown to be proud of.”

David G

So, quite in fact: Deliberate ignorance is deadly. And quantifiable.

An analysis by NPR shows that since the vaccine rollout, counties that voted heavily for Donald Trump have had more than twice the COVID mortality rates of those that voted for Joe Biden. Pro-Trump counties now have far higher COVID-19 death rates. Misinformation is to blame.
