40 years since Jerry Falwell founded the “Moral Majority” as an evangelical tool for social engagement.
I enjoyed reading various posts and followed local involvement / support for the Saturday Day of Prayer (Sept 26th.) Some of this stuck in my mind, and after prayer – this is a collection of those impressions.
First, and notably, it’s been 40 years since Jerry Falwell founded the “Moral Majority” as an evangelical tool for social engagement. Since then, Evangelicals have been energetically rationalizing then normalizing and now mobilizing confrontational activism as, basically, doctrine.
Next, we know: Satan used scripture in his attempt to divert Christ from truth. But the final bargain was an exchange of fealty (allegiance with God) in return for an earthly kingdom. It’s the Enemy’s best offer. Jesus spoke the truth: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and only Him shall you serve.’ He recited the quintessential statement on loyalty.
In our time… in this iteration of the same temptation, the enemy has successfully diverted the Church… To such an extent that, by now, anyone suggesting prayers on the National Mall Sept. 26th are inappropriate, would be regarded as an apostate.

But bringing multitudes to confrontational activism is not revival. The church has built a golden calf.
