Orphangelical

“You meet saints everywhere. They can be anywhere. They are people behaving decently in an indecent society.”

Kurt Vonnegut

“Every saint has a past, every sinner a future.”

Oscar Wilde

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They fail to alter their views to fit the facts. Instead, they alter facts to fit their views.

And Dog Said: “It’s Today!”

Elsiecropped-img_1350.jpg is completely aware of the morning miracle — She wakes up and bouncing around she communicates: “we’re alive and have another chance to do something for God.” She has this infectious attitude, and I love her for it.

“It’s Today!”

“Today!”, even if it’s Monday? Depends on how I see my problems, doesn’t it?

If I view my problems through the lens of God being powerful, my problems seem small. And I know he’s got me in his hand. God is big and everything else diminished. I can lean back in Him and rest. I’m satisfied.

If I view my God through the lens of my problems He is diminished.  I’m thinking “what have you done for me lately, God?” My dissatisfaction compounds into worry. I try to measure my progress, ranking myself against the things of the world. I’m driven to succeed in some ways, and the satisfaction only lasts for a minute and then I have to pursue something else.

“For he says, ‘In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.’ I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Cor. 6:2

Elsie is right. “It’s Today!” says everything I need to know. The gift of today is sufficient for my needs and I won’t waste it thinking regretfully of yesterday, or worrying about tomorrow.
