Tough Love?

tough loveThe notion of “Tough Love” — setting boundaries, limits and conditional trust — Is it compatible with Christian Faith?

Recovery traditions, both secular and faith-based, include these concepts.

“One has to take care of oneself first before they can hope to care for another.”

It’s common sense.

But is faith, common sense?

“Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.” Ps. 61:1-4

As one who’s struggled to reconcile the issue?  It’s bigger than it appears on the surface.  It’s more important that a first impression yields.
